AUSTRALIA’S young swing bowler came up against a batsman who likes to swing from the hip yesterday. Had they been in a bar, and not in the middle of a pulsating MCG, James Pattinson and Virender Sehwag might even have taken a swing at each other, so steamy was the atmosphere when they crossed path

Severino on the spot to punish BRISBANE

Posted on 27 December 2011

BRISBANE MEDIA

A CONTROVERSIAL late penalty helped Gold Coast United win its first M1 derby in two years and continue BRISBANE Roar’s stunning fall from grace.

The Coast leapt off the bottom of the A-League table with the 1-0 Boxing Day victory at Skilled Park, as its arch-rival slumped to a club record fifth straight loss.

It is an amazing turnaround for the competition’s defending premier, who celebrated an Australian record undefeated streak of 36 matches just a month ago.

BRISBANE MEDIA – Fit HARRIS puts in late bid

Posted on 27 December 2011

BRISBANE MEDIA

A WEEK out from the Boxing Day Test, Ryan Harris has made a return to bowling in the unlikely setting of Queensland’s Sunshine Coast, turning out for BRISBANE grade side Toombul in a pair of Twenty20 matches.

Harris has been sidelined since injuring his hip during Australia’s defeat by South Africa in Cape Town last month.

The 32-year-old paceman is now set to step up his late bid for a berth in Michael Clarke’s squad for the first Test against India by appearing for Big Bash League team BRISBANE Heat at the Gabba tomorrow night.

BRISBANE MEDIA – STARS TO HOT FOR BRISBANE

Posted on 27 December 2011

BRISBANE MEDIA

The BRISBANE Heat recorded a loss on the scoreboard but a big win with the fans as the T20 Big Bash League came to the GABBA last night.

A bumper crowd of 29,241 rolled up to watch former Test teammates Matt Hayden and Shane Warne square off in the abbreviated form of the game.

Warne’s Melbourne Stars held off the Heat chase to record an eight-run win after setting the Heat a target of 178 on the back of opener Rob Quiney’s knock of 97, which ended on the second last ball of the innings.

The GABBA crowd easily eclipsed the competition’s previous record crowd of 23,496 set in the Stars’ opening match against Sydney Thunder last Saturday night.

T20 Big Bash

BRISBANE MEDIA

Sydney captain Brad Haddin smashed 76 runs to guide the Sixers to a seven-wicket victory over BRISBANE in the opening Big Bash match of the summer on Friday night.

Haddin’s top knock followed the great work of 40-year-old spinner Stuart MacGill who returned from a three-year retirement to take 2-21 and help restrict the Heat to 8-139, despite the best efforts of Dan Christian (32) and Matt Hayden (29).

Thanks to Haddin and Nic Maddinson (28) the Sixers were rarely troubled, with allrounder Moises Henriques (5) hitting the winning runs as the home team reached 3-140 with eight balls to spare.
